FuneralsI will work alongside and for you, to help create a moving and meaningful ceremony; a service that honours the life of your loved one and which supports you in your grief. |
‘It seems to me, that if we love, we grieve. That’s the deal. That’s the pact. Grief and love are forever intertwined. Grief is the terrible reminder of the depths of our love and, like love, grief is non-negotiable.’
Nick Cave
When someone close to us dies, everything changes. It can be difficult to find our way through the tasks that follow a death, while also thinking about how we would like to say goodbye.
I will work for you and alongside you at this difficult time, to help create a moving and meaningful ceremony; something that is helpful and healing in the present, and something that can stay with you in the years ahead. Together, we will design a ceremony which feels very much like your loved one in content, tone and feel.
A good funeral does three things: the ceremony recognises and honours the life that has been lived, in its fullness, with joy and with tears; it is an opportunity to mourn the death of your loved one and to say your goodbye; it may support you in your next steps without your loved one beside you, gently, and with hope.
I have completed training with Cruse and spent time as a volunteer; I have experience of working with people bereaved in different ways. I worked with children and young people for seventeen years, as a teacher, SENCo and PSHE co-ordinator-I will be very happy to talk with and support the younger ones in your family.

How we might work together
We shall meet for as long as is needed for you to tell me about your loved one. A cup of tea normally helps! This is time for you to tell me about their life and their essence, the things they loved and the things they didn’t, the tricky times and the wonderful times, and what they meant to you and others. You might like to share photos and letters or cards you have received. If it is not possible for everyone to be there at our meeting, I am happy to speak with people on the phone or on a video call.
You might have a very clear idea about how you like the ceremony to be and the music and readings you want to include, perhaps your loved one left some directions for you. It might be that you feel uncertain; this is not something we have to do on many occasions in our lifetime. You might fall somewhere in between. I am very experienced in working with families and individuals in all of these places and situations; all are fine. We will start from wherever you find yourself.
After our meeting, I will send you a first draft of the ceremony for your comment. I will send you a second draft and another if it is needed (and another!)
Throughout, I will work with your Funeral Director and all parties involved, to ensure that things happen as smoothly as possible.
On the day I will be there to meet you when you arrive at the venue. My task is to hold things for you-the timings, the flow of the ceremony, the rituals we use to say goodbye- so that you have the space to express the things you want to express and to say the words you want to say.

Funeral Testimonials
‘We feel very lucky that we had Rebecca to deliver the service at our Mum’s funeral. Rebecca is a lovely lady with a warm and caring manner. She was a pleasure to talk to, listened very carefully to the family and understood our feelings and thoughts about our Mum, and she delivered a perfect and fitting tribute. We have had so many comments from friends and family who told us how very impressed they were with Rebecca’s service and how well her words summed up our lovely Mum. A huge thank-you from all the family.’
‘I really can’t thank Rebecca enough for delivering the most beautiful and personal funeral service for my dear mum. She really held our hands, and guided us in planning the service, and then listened to all our little stories and important memories of mum; Rebecca was easy to talk to and she really captured so much of mum in the eulogy she wrote I still can’t believe she remembered so much.
On the day she spoke calmly and beautifully, we had many lovely comments about her service and a few wondered if she was a personal friend of my mums because she seemed to know her so well. She certainly feels like a friend now, and I thank Rebecca for her warmth, poise and understanding at such a raw time. I’d recommend her in a heartbeat.’
‘I cannot recommend Rebecca enough. A beautiful lady with beautiful words. As we said our painful goodbyes to my incredible mum, Rebecca made the service so beautiful. Everyone who attended were amazed by her service. A pleasure to work with, a pleasure to have do this service. We will always hold Rebecca close to our hearts.’
